A new, new day has come! It’s officially spring and the beginning of Aries season, and with that comes a feeling of possibility. That must have been what Maman Dion, Thérèse, was feeling 50 years ago, as she prepared to give birth to international superstar, Céline. On March 30th, the queen of Québec will turn the big 5-0 (if you live in la belle province, you can pick up the commemorative collector magazine at any dépanneur) but hasn’t she basically been 50 since she was a kid? That is just one of the many questions Thomas and Tranna explore in this week’s episode, dedicated to the power of Céline.
Joining Chosen Family in its Céline obsession is fabulous journalist, Brendan Kelly, who has been covering and interviewing Céline for the last 25+ years. Brendan shares his experiences of the diva, including his first meeting with her and the time she publicly made fun of his french accent (you can watch the very uncomfortable video here). Alongside Thomas and Tranna, Brendan discusses theories of Céline’s success, her psychology, her cultural significance, and even her sexuality (OMG) in an explosive and hilarious conversation that you just cannot miss. Whether you love Céline (like Thomas and Brendan) or hate her (like Tranna), we promise you’ll be riveted.

Joining the Céline discussion is comedy superstar Matteo Lane, who you might recognize from late night television and his many shirtless Instagram pics. Yes, Matteo is the only comedian who is also an Instagram hunk. Matteo possesses an insane amount of knowledge on all the divas, from Barbra Streisand to Patti Labelle, and when Matteo and Tranna get to talking about them, they cannot be stopped!
Chosen Family was lucky to reach writer Carl Wilson, who also shares his brilliant Céline insight in the episode. Wilson is the writer of Let’s Talk About Love: A Journey to the End of Taste, which has become the definitive critique of Céline’s music. With Thomas, he explains the Céline phenomenon and how the book has linked his name with hers forever.
There was no better way to end this Céline special than with a cover of one of her earliest hit, D’amour ou d’amitié, performed so beautifully by Safia Nolin. Check out more of Safia’s music and catch her live, if you can!
Don’t forget that Thomas and Tranna’s Céline obsession will come to life next week at The Wiggle Room, as they present Sainte Céline: A New, New Day, a comedy and musical odyssey that takes you through the Céline universe, like you’ve never experienced it before. There are only a few tickets left, so grab them now while you can!
