5 films, 5 performances, 1 night only.
From August 8 to 29, 2013, guest curator POP Montreal paired 5 local music bands with 5 local filmmakers to work towards a singular goal: to create 5 musical shorts for the Phi Centre as part of the collaborative initiative 5 x Phi.
Next February 21, the results of this ambitious endeavour will be unveiled. The entire project— from concept development to filming, editing and recording—was completed in just three weeks using the Phi Centre’s outstanding resources, including film sets, recording studios, and editing suites.

“We chose these artists because we felt they were up for the challenge of working collaboratively with other like-minded teams and individuals in an experimental and daring way. We also felt they would be inspired by the full potential that the Phi Centre offers. In pairing the teams together we asked each artist to provide statements that we then shared with everyone. Each artist gave input on who they wanted to work with based on the information that everyone provided. Once we had everyone’s ideas, we tried matching people with the partners we felt would inspire their work and lead to the most fruitful collaborations. Like most artistic processes, there is tremendous potential but also quite a bit of mystery. We’re hoping everyone takes the leap with us and is inspired to create something memorable and unique!” - Dan Seligman, cofounder and Creative Director of POP Montreal
