The absurdist atmosphere of The Forbidden Room is aslo at the Phi Centre through a cinematic installation: Spiritismes. Created by Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson.

This installation consists of footage loops from the film's shooting. Beautiful, abstract and ectoplasmic, these atmospheric visual projections feature actors who move, stretch and seemingly torture and pleasure themselves in a silent void; a paranormal afterlife, explains Guy Maddin.

Co-directed by Guy Maddin and Evan Johnson, The Forbidden Room tells interconnected tales of a submarine crew, feared pack of forest bandits famous surgeon, and battalion of child soldiers who all get more than they bargained for as they wend their way toward progressive ideas on life and love.
