Uplifting our community through Self-Care Sundays

FAMILY BONDING

PANEL (12 PM - 1:15 PM) [VIRTUAL EVENT]

When family means wellness
Family ties are essential to the well-being of the family. How can we make sure that we preserve family culture and traditions, share experiences and celebrate each family member? This panel explores the power of family ties and intergenerational relationships.

WORKSHOP (2 PM - 3 PM)

The Family Tree Story
Having an understanding of what trauma is like for Black communities specifically can be highly empowering, and can be the very beginning of a healing journey in order to break the cycle of trauma for generations to come. So what is intergenerational trauma? Come and listen to learn more about the subtle and not-so-subtle effects on a family and a community.

CONVERSATION (4 PM - 6 PM)

Not Your Typical Relationship
In times of crisis, the directives of physical distancing lead us to transform our social ties. What are the effects on Afro-descendant families? How do we stay socially connected knowing that we’re all affected by the COVID-19 pandemic? This open conversation is for us to share our thoughts and solutions.

COMMUNITY

PANEL (12 PM - 1:15 PM) [VIRTUAL EVENT]

Black Spaces Is Common Unity
Have you ever thought about your well-being? How do you maintain your well-being and good mental health in a society where wellness spaces are not accessible to the Black community? The ideas of wellness and self-care take even greater importance in our current reality. Creating Black spaces in wellness for us, by us, is vital—whether online or in-person—where we find safety, comfort, and community. Come and listen to how our panelists are taking care of themselves and how they create Black spaces.

WORKSHOP (2 PM - 3 PM)

We Take Care of Us
How do you build a community around love? This workshop will allow you to develop meaningful and engaging projects that make a difference in a socially, culturally, economically and environmentally sustainable way in order to embrace a common experience and purpose for the Black community.

CONVERSATION (4 PM - 6 PM)

A Community Care Manifesto
Self-care is anything that allows you to reconnect with yourself and your community in a meaningful and long-term way. It promotes our individual well-being and gives us the power to survive and continue to do the collective work. The purpose of this conversation is to create a declaration of intentions by us for us because Self-Care is community care.

EMOTIONAL HEALING

PANEL (12 PM - 1:15 PM) [VIRTUAL EVENT]

We Healing Now
Mental health is a difficult and uncomfortable subject to discuss for a lot of people, especially for those with diagnosed mental health issues. It is still one of the most stigmatized subjects in our society. It's time to normalize talking about mental health. The purpose of this panel is to destigmatize mental illness and to keep the conversation going.

WORKSHOP (2 PM - 3 PM)

Destigmatizing Mental Health in Black Communities
Black communities often face systemic challenges and barriers that can have a negative impact on mental and physical health. Aware that knowledge is power, this workshop will help you gain a better understanding, break down barriers and dispel the stigma associated with mental illness.

CONVERSATION (4 PM - 6 PM)

The Wheel Of Emotions
How Are You? Really, How Are You? This open conversation will be a space for you to be honest about how you feel and will create a safe space for others to do the same.

This workshop consists of guided meditations, intentional conversations, and deep exhalations as you remember what it feels like to be at ease, within your mind, body, and spirit.

CONVERSATION (4 PM - 6 PM)

We Are Spiritual Beings
What are your sources of hope, strength, comfort and peace? How important is religion or faith to you? What do you do that gives you a sense of meaning and purpose in life? In what ways does this add to your sense of identity? Take this moment to share your thoughts or listen to others.
