During the German occupation of France, the arrival of a new priest in a small French village stirs the interest of the local women... Even Barny, a young communist and atheist, doesn't succeed in being indifferent. Spurred by curiosity, the young skeptic goes to the church with the aim of defying abbot Léon Morin. Usually so sure of herself, Barny will nevertheless be destablized by the young priest, as seductive as he is intelligent. Intrigued, she gets caught up in the game of their exchanges, to the point of questioning her deepest beliefs. Will Barny succumb to the charms of the young priest?
