After performing in France, Guadeloupe, Switzerland, Turkey and Poland since the start of 2015, the Cape Verdean will be touching down in Montreal on July 10 for a warm and intimate concert. Her first show in Montreal since appearing at the International Jazz Fest in 2008, the evening will give the artist a chance to reconnect with her admirers as she performs songs from her latest album Lovely Difficult together with some of her most-loved hits.

An artist inspired by diverse influences, Mayra Andrade charms audiences with her polyglot pop, her radiant beats and her warm Cape Verdean voice. Her presence on the Phi Centre stage will take the crowd on a passionate journey where love, joie de vivre and a spirit of adventure will prevail.

Born in Cuba in 1985, Mayra Andrade spent her childhood in Cape Verde before traveling across Africa with her mother and her stepfather who served as a diplomat in Senegal. After spending time in Germany and Canada, where she won a gold medal at the Jeux de la francophonie in Ottawa in 2001, the young woman decided to settle in Paris a year later, where she drew inspiration from the city’s cosmopolitan vibe.

Her unique compositions and enchanting voice quickly garnered attention, and, in 2005, her duo with Charles Aznavour on Insolitement vôtre was a huge success. The musician toured her debut album Navega (2006), sung in Cape Verdean Creole, in a number of Portuguese-speaking countries, from Lisbon to Mindelo. In France, her success was solidified with the release of Mas Amor, which she sang with La Mc Malcriado. She followed up with the albums Stória, stória… (2009), Studio 105 (2010), recorded live at the Maison de la radio de Paris, and her latest, Lovely Difficult (2013).
