Presented in collaboration with CINEMANIA.
Actor, screenwriter, and director Michel Hazanavicius first made his name with the unexpected success of his screwball spy-thriller parodies OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies and OSS 117: Lost in Rio, with Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo. In 2011 he brought the same tandem on board for the film that catapulted him to international celebrity, The Artist. This audacious work—a silent film shot in black and white—was showered with accolades on a path that took it from Cannes to the Césars, the BAFTAs, and the Oscars, where its take included Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor.
Hazanavicius’s other films include Mes amis (1999), one of the sketches in The Players (2012), The Search (2014), and most recently Redoubtable (2017), a retelling of a turning point in the life of legendary filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard set against the explosive backdrop of May 1968 in France.
Hosting the event will be French director Patrick Fabre, official red carpet emcee for the Cannes and Angoulême Festivals and artistic director of the Saint-Jean de Luz International Film Festival.
