An air of renewal overlooks Montreal. In the slightest particle of light, in the slightest semblance of smile, the city is reborn. At the heart of this surge of optimism, PHI propagates a powerful art in the form of a musical epic. The roof of the Centre is being transformed to become the home of a new energy, with a festive concert series gathering local artists.

Sonication is a hybrid experience, halfway between a film set and a festive happening. While the performances played on the roof are retranscribed on screens throughout the PHI Centre, aesthetes and music lovers are invited to take part in a mosaic of animations within the building. A programme rich in artistic promise, between discovery, playful indulgence and relaxation.

Each series of the odyssey is a surreal and multicoloured chapter, a moment of grandiose reconnection between artists and audience. Throughout the summer, in an atmosphere of artistic freedom, let's celebrate together the human being and his desire for communion through music. For the first series of Sonication, the following artists will take part in the celebration:


Sarahmée is now a major force on the Quebec rap scene, making a remarkable comeback with her critically acclaimed second album, Irréversible. In collaboration with rapper Souldia, Sarahmée delivers an album with an assertive message, reinforced by refined flows and skillfully mastered Afro-Latin rhythms. Sarahmée was the first hip-hop artist to be nominated in the category of Newcomer of the Year at the Gala de l'Adisq, and was featured in the opening number of the Gala broadcast live on Radio-Canada television.

Pierre Kwenders fluidly dismantles boundaries of genre, country and culture in his inventive indie-Afro electro sound, merging Western and African styles into warm grooves punctuated by impassioned vocals. Born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, as José Louis Modabi, Pierre Kwenders (his grandfather's name, chosen in legacy) sings and raps in Lingala, French, English, Tshiluba and Kikongo, mining the languages' lyrical and aesthetic distinctions for peak emotional resonance.

Real name Yassin Alsalman, Narcy is a multi-dimensional artist and polymath. He is a musician, a director, a professor, a writer and an actor. He currently teaches a hip-hop production class, and a cultural study of rap and politics,  at Concordia University. He tours museums, stages and spaces as Narcy and directs music videos as Yassin. he currently resides in Montreal, has his heart in the arab world and is grounded on planet Earth. Most importantly, he is a father of two.

Fab, also known as FABjustfab, is a Montreal-based multilingual rapper, beatboxer, singer-songwriter, DJ, producer and steelpan player. Co-founder of alternative hip hop group Random Recipe (2007), Fab has co-written & co-produced four albums under the latter project. Music has driven Fab to collaborate with numerous international artists, setting foot on all five continents. Her involvement in art and musical projects includes seeking unique sounds & textures, working as an A & R, creative coaching, and being at the forefront of social involvement & awareness.

Sonication is one of the key events of the DESTINATION: PHI programming, which includes many multidisciplinary initiatives (concerts, screenings, installations, etc.) offered in our physical and virtual creative spaces.
