A Nunavut native, Tanya Tagaq was raised in Canada’s high arctic surrounded by both Inuit and western culture.
Known for her mesmerizing and innovative free-style approach, Tanya’s traditional Inuit throat singing work caught Bjork’s ear resulting in Tanya’s appearing on Bjork’s 2004 album Medullaas well as on the Icelandic artist’s world tour.
These days, Tagaq’s signature improvisational style has earned her top honours as the winner of the 2104 Polaris Prize, recognitions from both the Juno Awards and the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards and an invitation to collaborate from the world-renowned Kronos Quartet.
